Timera Energy’s team is defined by its senior industry expertise. Our core team members have held roles at BP, Origin Energy, Exxon, JP Morgan, ArcelorMittal, Enron and Dynegy. Our client relationships are built around delivering value in areas where we have first hand experience.

A summary of the experience of some of our core team members is provided below. As well as a core team, we have a strong network of senior associates that we call on to provide specific commercial or analytical expertise.

David Stokes – Managing Director [Read more]
David has worked in energy and financial markets since 1996. He is an expert in the valuation and risk management of energy assets and portfolios. He has worked in roles across Europe, the US and Australia which have combined commercial and trading experience with a depth of analytical expertise. David has led Timera Energy’s work with clients including Macquarie, Arcus, Marguerite, Equinor, Gasunie and Uniper.

David has an Honours degree in Economics from the Australian National University. He completed a graduate trading desk programme with Bankers Trust in Sydney and then joined JP Morgan working as a foreign exchange trader in London and New York. After making the transition to energy markets in the late 90’s, David worked on the Structuring Desk at Williams Energy in London valuing assets and structured energy contracts and developing hedging and risk management strategies. He then joined the Wholesale and Trading division of Origin Energy in Australia, having responsibility for the valuation and risk assessment of major projects, contracts and acquisitions. Prior to co-founding Timera Energy, David was a member of the Senior Management Team at Redpoint Energy where he led the delivery of projects covering asset valuation, portfolio hedging & asset optimisation, working with EDF, Centrica, BG, Shell, Statoil and E.ON.

Olly Spinks – Managing Director [Read more]Olly has 20 years experience in the energy industry. He is an expert in a broad spectrum of analytical techniques that are applied to gas and power markets. He has worked in a variety of roles within energy companies, including heading BP’s commercial analytics team. This has given him a deep understanding of asset valuation, hedging and optimisation. Olly has led Timera Energy’s work with clients including JP Morgan, Cheniere, Fluxys, Temasek, Qatar Gas and EnBW.

Olly has a Master of Commerce (Hons) degree in Operations Research from the University of Canterbury (NZ). The early years of his career were spent working in both New Zealand and Europe in industry roles focused on power and gas asset valuation and market fundamental analysis. This included time at Dynegy UK where he worked on a number of large deals. Olly then spent 7 years with BP Integrated Supply and Trading where he ran the commercial analytics function for BP’s European gas, power and global LNG trading businesses. In this role, he managed a large team delivering asset valuation services, deal structuring and fundamental analysis to the trading books and business development teams.

May Mannes – Managing Director [Read more]May has worked in European energy markets since 1990. She has held senior roles at Statoil (now Equinor), Eclipse Energy and S&P Global Platts.  May is an expert in gas & LNG markets with industry experience across origination, structuring, operations and commercial analysis. She leads Timera Energy’s gas & LNG market business development.

May has an Honours degree in Economics & Marketing from the University of Strathclyde. She worked as a Senior Analyst for Statoil, before moving to Head of Business Operations for Alliance Gas in the UK. After spending time as a structuring analyst in the US, May returned to Statoil holding several senior commercial roles across gas & LNG. This included her having responsibility for managing parts of Statoil’s existing gas contract portfolio as well as long term sales into France, Spain, Italy, Belgium and UK. On leaving Statoil, May helped establish Eclipse Energy as Director of Gas & LNG Analysis and of Advisory Services. When S&P Global Platts acquired Eclipse, she then transitioned into a role as Director of Content covering gas & LNG market analysis.

Phil Robinson – Director [Read more]Phil has 15 years industry experience in energy markets. He has a senior commercial background and is an expert in managing the value and risk of power assets.  Phil has worked in commercial, analytical & trading roles at Calon Energy, EDF Energy and E.ON Energy Trading.  Phil has led a number of Timera’s UK power projects for clients including Drax, Triton Energy, Covalis and Axpo.

Phil has a Masters degree in Business Economics from UMIST. Prior to this he completed an Honours degree in Economics from the University of Nottingham.  He spent the earlier years of his career working as an analyst and structured trader with E.ON. He was then Head of UK Portfolio Analysis for E.ON Energy Trading before he moved to EDF where he was Head of Energy Market and Credit Risk.  Before joining Timera, Phil was commercial head of Calon Energy where he had responsibility for integration and commercial strategy development for Calon’s portfolio of three UK CCGT assets.

Howard Rogers – Senior Advisor [Read more]Howard Rogers has been a Senior Advisor with Timera Energy since 2013. He is also Chairman of the Natural Gas Research Programme at the Oxford Institute of Energy Studies (OIES). This role has included overseeing extensive analysis of LNG and European gas market fundamentals. Prior to this, Howard spent almost 30 years in commercial and analytical roles at BP. Howard leads Timera Energy’s LNG & European gas market modelling capability, delivering analysis to clients including Macquarie, JP Morgan, IUK and Fluxys.

In his OIES role, Howard is responsible for the management, strategic direction and finances of an internationally renowned gas research programme employing a team of permanent staff and larger group of visiting Research Fellows and contributors. Prior to this, Howard spent almost 30 years in commercial and analytical roles at BP. This included Head of Fundamental Analysis, BP Global Gas (2002–2008) where he managed a Team of four analysts to provide the analytical foundation for BP’s gas business development strategy. He was a Senior Gas Negotiator (1999-2002). In addition his experience with BP included roles in upstream business development, strategy and planning in Europe, USA, Kuwait and Azerbaijan.

Nick Perry – Senior Advisor [Read more]Nick Perry has been a Senior Advisor with Timera Energy since 2012. Nick has extensive energy industry expertise specialising in portfolio & transaction structuring, risk management, market dynamics and regulatory issues. He has spent over 20 years working in the gas and power industries for Exxon, Amoco and Enron, where he was a Board Director of Enron Europe & Teesside Power. Nick has provided commercial consulting expertise to energy companies, banks, regulators and governments.

As a consultant Nick has advised on price review negotiations and been a gas litigation case expert witness. As part of his industry experience, he has acted as a principal in the negotiation of numerous long term contracts when at Exxon/Esso, Amoco and Enron. Nick was founder-shareholder and Senior VP of Caminus Corp. where he held the role of Managing Director European Strategic Consulting and worked closely with David Stokes and Olly Spinks. From 1993-1997 Nick was a Board Director, Enron Europe Ltd and of Teesside Power Ltd. From 1988-1993 he worked as a Senior Negotiator, Natural Gas for Amoco and from 1977-1988 held various commercial and negotiating roles in Supply, Logistics, Treasury and Natural Gas for Exxon/Esso.

Jessica Gervais – Director [Read more]Jessica is a Director with Timera, with responsibility for leading our team of analysts, and has over 10 years commercial and analytical experience in European energy markets. She joined Timera from Platts Analytics (formerly Eclipse) where she was Head of Modelling for European Gas & Power. Prior to this, she led the development of Arcelor Mittal’s European gas trading capability, with responsibility for optimising energy sourcing across multiple hubs in Europe.

Jessica holds an Engineering degree of ESPCI Paris (City of Paris Industrial Physics and Chemistry Higher Educational Institution) where she studied fundamental and applied Physics and Chemistry. She started her career in 2006 focusing on spatial modelling of aircraft noise and emissions for a Cargo Airline. She joined ArcelorMittal in 2008 as a process engineer before moving into the energy trading business in 2012. Here Jessica had responsibility for sourcing/hedging/trading strategies, deal structuring, balancing optimization, demand response, portfolios pooling and asset optimisation. In 2015, she joined Platts Analytics (formerly Eclipse) as a senior analyst and then as manager of a modelling team, covering European Gas & Power analysis and developing modelling capabilities across those markets.

Henry Crawford – Senior Analyst [Read more]Henry has 7 years industry experience in the energy and capital markets. Prior to joining Timera Energy, Henry was trading natural gas and power for Nova Energy, one of New Zealand’s largest energy companies. In addition to trading, Henry has a strong background in commercial analytics and the implementation of energy hedging strategies.

Henry has a Master of Applied Finance degree from Victoria University of Wellington (NZ). Prior to this he completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Otago (NZ).  Henry began his career working with market and commercial analysis at the New Zealand Stock Exchange. He then worked for Nova Energy for several years in roles covering both trading and commercial analytics.  Henry plays a key role in operating, maintaining and developing Timera Energy’s market and commercial analytics capability.

Emilio Viudez Ruido – Principal [Read more]Emilio has worked for the last 15 years in the European energy industry. He specialises in designing and implementing practical solutions for the valuation, hedging and risk analysis of energy assets, capturing the realistic constraints of day to day operations. Emilio has extensive experience in delivering analytical, systems and process solutions to the trading and risk management functions of European energy companies.

Emilio has an MPhil degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Cambridge and is ERP certified by the GARP organization. From the late 1990’s, he worked in Caminus Consulting’s Trading and Risk Management team. Following the acquisition of Caminus by SunGard, Emilio moved into the ETRM systems business where he was focused on the design and delivery of commercial and risk analytics solutions to European energy clients, including Shell, ENI, BP, Noble, Drax, BG, Endesa, ESB, Fortum, EDF, Electrabel & Eneco. For example Emilio has worked on design of energy portfolio book structures, covering P&L and Risk attribution and transfer price mechanisms. He has also developed a hedging orientated methodology to deconstruct a complex energy portfolio into underlying commodity and FX market exposures.
